This Week's Releases: May 10, 2006
This week's trip to 2005 Will Eisner Spirit of Comics Retailer Award Winning Night Flight Comics is one I've been anticipating for quite some time. 52 at the least has ambition and some damn good writers on its side, and "ambition" is something that the industry is not currently awash in. As the idea of "event" comics have been beaten like an expired equine, this feel like a true "event".
Another book I'm looking forward to is Boom! Studios' Cthulhu Tales. I've read much blogosphere praise of the publisher, but since my interests tend neither towards zombies or the BWA-HA-HA I haven't tried a single book by them. My interests do tend towards Mr. Lovecraft, however.
Also Mr. Warren Ellis gets with the Viking slayage in Wolfskin, and it should be interesting to see how he does when forcibly separated from long explanations of futurism and technology. I'm hoping for something like a comic-book Ice-Shirt, but expect to be a bit disappointed on that front.
American Virgin, Firestorm, and Battle for Bludhaven all teeter on the brink of the pull list.
- 52 #1
- American Virgin #3
- Batman: Secrets #3
- Crisis Aftermath: The Battle For Bludhaven #3
- Firestorm: The Nuclear Man #25
- Superman #652
- Fantastic Four: First Family #3
- X-Men: Deadly Genesis #6
- Warren Ellis' Wolfskin #1
- Cthulhu Tales #1

He's talked a bit about it at the Engine. It's his Conan riff, but in a more realistic Viking setting. He's researched it a lot, as there was a lot of Viking activity whenere he lives now.
I don't have a DS, and keep trying to remind myself that as a telecommuter, I don;t need one. :)
