This Week's Releases: September 20, 2006

Not sure when I'll make it down to 2005 Will Eisner Spirit of Comics Retailer Award Winning Night Flight Comics this week, as it will in part depend on a much-anticipated second interview I need to set up. When I get there, though, I will gasp in delight and shock at the simple fact Astonishing X-Men seems to be shipping on a schedule. I gets the industry-coveted Focused Totality Cover Nod this week in part for that, and in part because it's one of the great covers EVAR.

I only have the first issue of Hatter M, so my decision to continue with this intriguing little series will depend on the availability of backissues to fill in the gap. I am about as undecided as a person can be about Wetworks, and it can be summed up thusly: Mike Carey good, Whilce Portacio double-plus un-good. I've spoken before of my Union Jack fandom, so I'm definitely trying out the miniseries. I'm also buying Civil War, delays be damned: I love the summery-blockbustery-ness of it all, even if it's now a Fall/Winter/Spring blockbuster.

By the by, I've switched over to the Blogger Beta so pardon the sawdust. All the categories/tags need a re-do, and it appears searching old posts is verboten. I'll spiff it up soonlike.

Regarding the WeboComicsBlogoNet controversy: if I ever again post anything interesting here, y'all are welcome to link away. Except for you, Mike Sterling.

How is Runaways? I have never read them, but I saw that Joss Whedon will be doing a stretch for that title around issue #25. So I wanted to check that out, but I know nothing about this title. Any thoughts?

Runaways is absolutely fantasitc, the best characterization in Big Two comics.

I completely recommend starting at the beginning - the big hardcover of volume gets you one heck of a story for a good price, and should hook you.

Thanks,
I'll give them a try then. I found a seller that I can get all 5 available TPBs for just $30 total, so I'll do that since the second hardcover isn't out.

So does Vol 1 and Vol 2 of the title follow the same characters?

Yeah, it's the same group. Basically.
