This Week's Releases: May 24, 2006

When I leave 2005 Will Eisner Spirit of Comics Retailer Award Winning Night Flight Comics on Wednesday, I will be loaded for bear. It's a huge week, with lots of exciting stuff from publishers big and small.

The second issue of the fascinating The Black Coat should be hitting shelves, and I'll be crossing my fingers I got my preorder set in a timely fashion. Another small presser I'll be hoping to find is Wyrms, based on the Orson Scott Card novel.

The first Legion Of Super-Heroes TPB really blew me away, and I am looking forward to reading more of the story ... but probably when a lighter week comes along. Gail Simone's Secret Six may be the best concept to come out of all the Infinite Crisis hoo-ha, and while Shadowpact and Checkmate may fall off my radar quickly, I am in for the long haul with this wonderful story of utter moral ambiguity.

Is Fantastic Four: A Death In The Family an example of deplorable "event comics"? Well .... maybe. But it's Karl Kesel, people ... Karl Kesel on the FF, where he belongs. Iron Man really surprised me last issue, where Carnivale's Daniel Knauf really set an interesting table of corporate espionage with some Tony Stark character beats that I'm looking forward to seeing some follow-up on.

Obviously, there's little doubt on what I'm most looking forward to this week: Scott Pilgrim & The Infinite Sadness. I loved the first two, and just re-read them in preparation. This may be the most anticipated release of the year for me.

Hmmm. Your post about The Black Coat made me want to seek it out, and the first issue was just solicited in Previews. I assume it's a reprint, which means I guess I'll have to track down issue #2 and not read it until later. Your information better be right, Fossen!

Yeah - I think there's a reprint happening.

I know I didn't get the first issue from an alternate future, if that's what you're asking.

Oh, I see how it is, Burgas! You jump on Fossen's recommendation for the Black Coat, but mine wasn't enough for you to pull the trigger? No wonder you didn't like Owly. You're evil!!!!
